Description

Toni is a vessel in the form of an animal or mythical creature. The original (dated 1200 to 1100 B.C.) was found in Vösendorf (Eisgrubfeld) in 1941. The horned, bovine-like head merges into a cylindrical body that contains an opening with a conical rim in the back area. The rump, in the form of a stubby tail, also has a small opening. The vessel stands on two short, human-like legs.

Monika Trimmel is a trained architect. Her fascination with these enigmatic figures from the Wien Museum's collection led her to study them closely, get to know them, and explore their manner of expression. This is how a series of unique handmade pieces came into being. Looking at them, one wonders what they have experienced and what they can tell us about their, and our own, cultural pasts.
